Article 48. Responsibility of the pilot and captain of the Merchant Shipping Act
The presence of a pilot on board does not exclude the responsibility of the ship's captain for the management of the vessel. If there are sufficient grounds to doubt the correctness of the recommendations of the pilot, the captain of the vessel has the right to refuse the services of this pilot in order to ensure the safe navigation of the vessel. If pilotage of the vessel is mandatory, the captain of the vessel must request the replacement of the pilot.
