On the establishment of a Memorial Day for Victims of Political Repression

DECREE OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN dated April 5, 1997 No. 3443.

In connection with the declaration of 1997 as the Year of National Accord and Remembrance of Victims of Political Repression, taking into account the appeals of citizens and public associations of the Republic, and in order to perpetuate the memory of victims of political repression, I DECREE:

     1. To establish May 31 as the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repression.

     2. The Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan annually develops and holds events on May 31 dedicated to the memory of victims of political repression.

     3. This Decree shall enter into force from the date of publication.
