On further measures to improve the administrative-territorial structure of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated May 3, 1997 No. 3483.

 In accordance with Article 9 of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On

     the administrative-territorial structure of the Republic of Kazakhstan"

     I decree:

     1. Abolish:

     1) Zhezkazgan region;

     2) Kokshetau region;

     3) Semipalatinsk region.

     2. Change borders:

     1) The Karaganda region, including the territory of

     the abolished Zhezkazgan region;

     2) The North Kazakhstan region, including the territory of

     the abolished Kokshetau region;

     3) East Kazakhstan region, including the territory of

     the abolished Semipalatinsk region.

     3. The Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan shall take the necessary measures to implement this Decree. Within three weeks, make a proposal on the administrative-territorial structure of the formed regions.

     4. This Decree comes into force from the date of signing.
