On approval of the Design Concept of banknotes and coins of the national currency – the Kazakhstani tenge
Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated December 12, 2018 No. 804.
In accordance with Article 3 of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated March 30, 1995 "On the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan", I hereby decree:
1. To approve the attached Design Concept of banknotes and coins of the national currency – the Kazakhstani tenge in a new edition.

2. Invalidate them:
1) Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated September 25, 2003 No. 1193 "On approval of the Design Concept of banknotes and coins of the national currency – the Kazakhstani Tenge" (SAPP of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 2003, No. 38, art. 384);
2) Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated June 26, 2008 No. 624 "On Amendments and additions to Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated September 25, 2003 No. 1193" (SAPP of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 2008, No. 31, art. 309);
3) Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated January 29, 2014 No. 743 "On Amendments and Additions to Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated September 25, 2003 No. 1193 "On Approval of the Design Concept of Banknotes and Coins of the national currency – the Kazakhstani Tenge" (SAPP of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 2014, No. 3, art. 16);
4) Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated January 28, 2016 No. 185 "On Amendments to Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated September 25, 2003 No. 1193 "On Approval of the Design Concept of Banknotes and Coins of the national currency – the Kazakhstani Tenge" (SAPP of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 2003, No. 38, art. 384; 2008, No. 31, Article 309; 2014, No. 3, Article 16; 2016, No. 7, Article 27).
3. This Decree shall enter into force from the date of its signing.

The design concept of banknotes and coins of the national currency – Kazakhstani tenge
The footnote. In the title and throughout the text, the word "tenge" has been replaced by the word "tenge" in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 07/01/2026 No. 1337.
Chapter 1. General provisions
1. This Design Concept for banknotes and coins of the national currency – the Kazakhstani tenge (hereinafter referred to as the Concept) defines the basic principles of the design of banknotes and coins of the national currency – the Kazakhstani tenge (hereinafter referred to as the design of banknotes and coins).
2. Banknotes and coins of the national currency of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kazakhstani tenge, issued by the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter referred to as the National Bank), are the unconditional obligations of the National Bank and are secured by all its assets and are required to be accepted at their face value throughout the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
3. Concepts used in this Concept:
1) banknotes and coins – banknotes of the national currency of the Republic of Kazakhstan – tenge, issued by the National Bank;
2) investment coins – coins made of precious metals, which are the object of investment and accumulation;
3) collectible coins – commemorative, commemorative and other coins of special mintage, made in limited edition, both from precious and base metals, which are the object of collecting and accumulation;
4) circulation coins – coins made of base metals and intended for cash circulation.
4. Materials that are safe for health are used in the manufacture of banknotes and coins.
5. The design of banknotes and coins and their nominal value are determined by the Board of the National Bank on the basis of this Concept.
Chapter 2. Design features of banknotes and coins
6. Mandatory design elements of banknotes and coins are:
1) the numerical and (or) letter designation of the nominal value;
2) elements that allow to determine authenticity and provide protection against forgery, using existing security technologies;
3) the official name of the country of the issuer and (or) the issuer;
4) the image of the State Coat of Arms of the Republic of Kazakhstan, placed on the obverse side of banknotes and on the obverse or reverse side of coins.
7. Additional design elements of banknotes are:
1) Serial number and year of design approval;
2) the signature of the Chairman of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan, who approved the design of the banknotes;
3) an inscription about the responsibility for counterfeiting banknotes.
An additional element of the coin design is the year of minting.

8. The design of banknotes and coins uses one and (or) several of the following images:
1) Kazakh ornament or its components;
2) portraits of outstanding personalities who have contributed to the history and development of Kazakhstan;
3) unique historical, geographical places and architectural monuments of Kazakhstan and (or) their fragments;
4) Images dedicated to national and international events;
5) images of representatives of flora and fauna of Kazakhstan;
6) images related to history, statehood, politics, law, economics, science, education, culture, art, sports, development of Kazakhstan;
7) images related to world values, assets, history and culture;
8) image of the trademark (logo) of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
9) other numeric and alphabetic inscriptions.
9. The design of banknotes and circulation coins is developed on the basis of a single design design.
10. The text of the inscriptions used in the design of banknotes and coins is drawn up in the official language. The design of investment and collectible coins allows the use of inscriptions in foreign languages.
11. In the design of investment and collectible coins, it is allowed to use inscriptions indicating the metal from which the coins are made, its sample and weight.
