Article 159. Land monitoring of the Land Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan
1. Land monitoring is a system of basic (initial), operational, periodic observations of the qualitative and quantitative state of the land fund, including using remote sensing data conducted for the purpose of state control over the use and protection of land, timely identification of ongoing changes, their assessment, forecasting further development and making recommendations on prevention and elimination of the consequences of negative processes.
2. Land monitoring is an integral part of monitoring the state of the natural environment and at the same time the basis for monitoring other natural environments.
In accordance with international scientific and technical programs, the Republic of Kazakhstan can participate in global land monitoring activities.
3. The object of land monitoring is all lands of the Republic of Kazakhstan, regardless of the forms of land ownership, purpose and nature of land use.
Land monitoring is carried out as a matter of priority on agricultural lands where processes related to:
1) changes in soil fertility (desertification, development of water and wind erosion, dehumification of soils, reduction of nutrients, salinization, waterlogging, waterlogging and flooding);
2) changes in the state of vegetation cover of natural forage lands.
