Article 1. The basic concepts used in this Law of the Law on Fingerprint and Genomic Registration
The following basic concepts are used in this Law:
1) biological material – human tissues and secretions containing genomic information or the body (remains) of a deceased person;
2) biological relatives – persons who are related by blood: parents (parent), children, grandfather, grandmother, grandchildren, full and incomplete, cousins, second cousins, uncles, aunts, nephews;
3) genomic information – encoded information about certain fragments of deoxyribonucleic acid of a person or an unidentified corpse, allowing to establish his identity, and personal data (if any) in accordance with the requirements of this Law.;
4) genomic registration – activities carried out by authorized state bodies in the field of fingerprint and (or) genomic registration for the collection, processing, protection of genomic information, selection, storage, use, destruction of biological material, identification or confirmation of human identity;
5) fingerprint information – biometric data on the structural features of the papillary patterns of the fingers and (or) palms of the hands of a person or an unidentified corpse, allowing to establish his identity, and personal data in accordance with the requirements of this Law;
6) authorized state bodies in the field of fingerprint and (or) genomic registration – internal affairs bodies, authorized state body in the field of foreign policy, national security bodies, authorized state body in the field of transport, carrying out, within their competence, fingerprint and (or) genomic registration of citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan, foreigners and stateless persons;
7) blocking of fingerprint or genomic information – actions to temporarily stop the collection, accumulation, modification, addition, use, transfer, depersonalization, destruction of fingerprint or genomic information;
8) destruction of fingerprint or genomic information – actions as a result of which it is impossible to restore fingerprint or genomic information.;
9) depersonalization of fingerprint or genomic information – actions as a result of which it is impossible to determine whether fingerprint or genomic information belongs to a specific person without using additional information.;
10) processing of fingerprint or genomic information – actions aimed at accumulation, storage, modification, addition, use, transfer, depersonalization, blocking and destruction of fingerprint or genomic information;
11) use of fingerprint or genomic information – actions with fingerprint or genomic information aimed at achieving the goal of fingerprint or genomic registration;
12) fingerprint registration – activities carried out by authorized state bodies in the field of fingerprint and (or) genomic registration for the collection, processing, protection of fingerprint information, identification or confirmation of a person's identity;
12-1) identity verification – confirmation of identity by checking for the coincidence of papillary patterns of fingers and (or) palms of hands of an individual with his fingerprint information;
13) material media – fingerprint or information cards, magnetic, electronic or other types of recording media containing fingerprint or genomic information;
14) unidentified corpse – the body (remains) of a deceased person, whose identity has not been established at the time of the discovery of the body (remains).

This Law regulates public relations in the field of fingerprint and genomic registration in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
