The following basic concepts are used in this Law:

1) the diaspora is a part of the people (ethnic community) living outside the country of its historical origin;

1-1) signage – information about the name and type of activity of individuals and legal entities, including means of their individualization, placed within the entrance to the building according to the number of entrances to it and (or) at the entrance of the fence of the occupied territory, as well as roofs and facades within buildings, extensions to them and temporary structures of individuals and legal entities in the places of their actual location and sale of goods, performance of works and provision of services;

1-2) authentic text translation is the translation of a text into another language that invariably preserves the meaning and content of the original;

2) onomastics is a branch of linguistics that studies proper names, the history of their origin and transformation;

3) onomastic commission – an advisory body that develops proposals for the formation of unified approaches to the naming and renaming of administrative-territorial units, constituent parts of settlements, airports, ports, railway stations, railway stations, metro stations, bus terminals, bus stations, physical, geographical and other objects of state ownership in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, clarifying and changing their transcription naming and assigning proper names of persons to state-owned legal entities, legal entities with state participation, as well as the restoration and preservation of historical names as an integral part of the historical and cultural heritage of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

3-1) authorized body in the field of onomastics – the central executive body responsible for the management and intersectoral coordination in the field of onomastics;

4) spelling – spelling, a system of rules that determine the uniformity of ways of transmitting speech (words and grammatical forms) in writing;

5) The Republican Terminology Commission is a consultative and advisory body under the authorized body that develops proposals in the field of terminological vocabulary of the Kazakh language in all sectors of the economy, science, technology and culture;

6) toponymy is a branch of onomastics that studies the names of geographical objects, the patterns of their occurrence, change and functioning;

7) Excluded by the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated December 29, 2021 No. 94-VII (effective ten calendar days after the date of its first official publication).

8) the authorized body in the field of language development is the central executive body responsible for leadership and intersectoral coordination in the field of language development.

This Law establishes the legal basis for the functioning of languages in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the duties of the state in creating conditions for their study and development, and ensures equal respect for all languages used in the Republic of Kazakhstan, without exception.
