Declaring 1998 the Year of National Unity and National History
Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated December 10, 1997 No. 3790
Considering the numerous appeals of citizens, public associations and organizations of the Republic, in order to ensure national harmony and study of national history
I DECREE:
1. To declare 1998 the Year of National Unity and National History.
2. The Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan:
1) to form a State Commission for the Year of National Unity and National History. Submit proposals on its composition by January 10.
Invite the heads of political parties, public associations, national cultural centers, religious associations, and creative organizations to join the State Commission.
Instruct the akims of the regions, the cities of Akmola, Almaty and the heads of ministries, state committees and departments to form similar commissions.;
2) submit, by January 15, 1998, for approval by the Head of State, a plan of relevant events, providing for their widespread and timely media coverage.;
3) to finance events for the Year of National Unity and National History at the expense and within the limits of funds provided by ministries and departments for the republican budget for 1998;
4) take measures to build new memorials of historical significance and bring them into proper condition;
5) instruct the Republican Onomastic Commission to bring the names of individual settlements into line with historical reality; P980368
6) instruct the State Commission for the Year of National Unity and National History to continue its work to ensure national harmony and the memory of victims of political repression;
7) take other necessary measures to implement this Decree.
3. This Decree shall enter into force from the date of publication.
