On renaming the city of Akmola, the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan, to Astana, the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated May 6, 1998 No. 3941.

Taking into account the petitions of local executive and representative bodies, the wishes of the Akmola city public, and based on the conclusion of the State Onomastic Commission under the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, I HEREBY DECREE:

     1. Rename the city of Akmola, the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan, to Astana, the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

     2. This Decree shall enter into force from the date of publication.
