About the Kazakh State Information Agency (KazTAG)
DECREE OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN dated September 10, 1997 No. 3629
In order to further expand the transparency in the activities of the state bodies of the Republic of Kazakhstan, more prompt and objective disclosure of their decisions, accessibility of these decisions for the mass media of the Republic, as well as for representatives of foreign mass media accredited in Kazakhstan
I decree:
1. To abolish the Kazakh State Information Agency (KazTAG).
2. The Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan:
1) within one month, make a decision on the establishment of the republican state-owned enterprise Kazakh Information Agency (KIA) (hereinafter referred to as the state-owned enterprise) and designate the National Agency for Press and Mass Media of the Republic of Kazakhstan as its authorized body;
2) to ensure the transfer to the newly created state-owned enterprise of the property necessary for the implementation of its activities, including buildings, for the location of the head office in the city of Akmola and representative office in the city of Almaty;
3) ensure the state registration of a state-owned enterprise within one month in accordance with the established procedure.
3. The National Agency for Press and Mass Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan shall ensure the development and approval of the charter of a state-owned enterprise within one month, providing for its following main functions:
1) free dissemination in the Kazakh mass media of the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan, acts of the President, Parliament and Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, other regulatory legal acts and all official information on the activities of state bodies; 2) ensuring publication in the mass media of comments of the Parliament, Government and other state bodies of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
3) making statements in the mass media on behalf of authorized state bodies on issues of domestic and foreign policy, explanations and clarifications;
4) information support in foreign mass media of the activities of state bodies of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
5) collection of materials from foreign mass media and their dissemination in the Kazakh mass media;
6) preparation of their own diverse and competitive materials on all aspects of the life of the Republic, their dissemination in the Kazakh and foreign mass media;
7) collection, accumulation and dissemination of official and other photographic information.
4. To invalidate the Decree of the President of the Kazakh SSR dated July 22, 1991 No. 382 "On the transformation of the Information Agency under the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR (KazTAG)".
5. This Decree comes into force from the date of signing.
